A dedicated civic leader, veteran, and educator.
Through over 35 years of service to her community and country, her experiences have reinforced a belief in the potential of all students.
Meet Janelle Wright:
I served our community as an active duty member of the United States Air Force for 24 years. Like many, I enlisted in the Air Force as an opportunity to fund college and serve at the same time. While serving, I was able to graduate from college and become a commissioned officer. When I retired from the Air Force in 2012, I chose to make the Mascoutah area my home because of the wonderful community and family-oriented feel.
I continued my service through education as a certified public school teacher. I have held various roles in school districts, with teaching being at the heart of them all. I also hold an administrator license, and will soon step into a school leadership position.
My dedication to serving students, families and communities is what drives my determination to be a champion for all students. My experiences as a classroom teacher gave me the opportunity to work with children of all abilities. Those experiences alone are what drove my determination to become a school leader.
My desire for all children to have the same opportunities to fulfill their potential is why I decided to answer the call to serve our community on the Mascoutah District 19 School Board.
Priorities
-
Continued state and federal investment into mandated programs for students with disabilities and low-income families requires an active board member, advocating for our community’s most vulnerable students.
As Board Member, Janelle will:
Advocate for additional education funding for students with disabilities (IEPs/504 Plans)
Prioritize existing plans for students to access needed services and supports (Title I). This money is typically used for educational technology, remedial instruction materials, internet and mental health services, among other things.
Ensure our schools are accountable for compliance with IEPs/504 Plans.
-
Janelle Wright’s decades with special education students, has taught her the importance of early childhood education — especially for achievement and behavioral intervention.
As Board Member, Janelle Will:
Assist families in enrolling children into a pre-k program.
Ensure funding for full day aftercare for working parents.
-
When students feel part of our schools, they succeed. Together, we can foster a positive and accepting school environment — no matter if the student hails from Scott Base, Belleville, or Mascoutah proper.
As Board Member, Janelle Will:
Conduct a school community assessment to help increase engagement with stakeholders.
Recruit teachers and staff that reflect our school’s community, and learning needs.
Explore alternatives to negative disciplines, suspension, and expulsion.
